It might not be this big space, and actually it does a great job to really give off those highlights of William’s time, the relationships he cherished, the impact his works brought about during that Key West experience. 3. Mel Fisher Maritime Museum: Treasures of the Deep
Mel Fisher Maritime Museum offers, arguably a little bit of adventure and history. So that museum features those treasures that were recovered from those sunken Spanish galleons, which are mostly that of Nuestra Señora de Atocha. That 1622 shipwreck got the world all shook up! In some respects, it brings the treasure to that surface.
You could come explore, like look at this amazing stash of gold and silver bars, this cool Spanish coins, just those artifacts from the deep! Like honestly the exhibits don’t just show off that wealth found. Yet they actually tell stories of those shipwrecks, the hard exploration that happened, which adds this awesome educational twist. The Custom House has, that stunning architecture, presents rotating exhibits that highlight the Florida Keys’ cool artistic and historical stuff, so I’d check it out! Basically East Martello Museum is almost creepy but awesome too, as it has this civil war fort that features folk art, plus the work from Mario Sanchez. Oh that creepy Robert The Doll. It might cause nightmares, haha! So then, what could Fort Taylor offer? Clearly, this place gives this view to the Civil War-era fortress, which displays cool maritime and military history. 5. San Carlos Institute: A Cuban Legacy
San Carlos Institute, in some respects, is this landmark with a whole lot of cool historical value. It reflects those close ties with Cuba, it means quite a bit to this exiled community.
Apparently this institute was founded back in 1871! It had the intent to preserve that Cuban culture, to educate that youth. And as I was saying, it ended up becoming the meeting spot for the revolution. The institute’s really big deal right now!
