Grand Canyon Stays: Top 5 Hotels & Lodges for an Epic Visit

Planning a trip to the Grand Canyon? It’s truly something. Finding the best place to rest your head can really make or break your experience. It seems there is tons to think about from those unbelievable canyon views to how close you actually are to the park. To set you up for success, I did some research for the top places you might consider while at the Grand Canyon. Maybe this list of hotels can help!

1. El Tovar Hotel: A Historic Grandeur

El Tovar is kind of a big deal, alright? Nestled right on the South Rim, this spot shows off this old-school charm. Opened way back in 1905, El Tovar has a reputation for amazing stuff, almost like a landmark. So you can expect classy rooms, views that are just something, and dining that’s pretty amazing. Plus, imagine waking up just steps away from the rim of the Grand Canyon! The El Tovar’s dining room is a must try. It may not be the only choice for super fancy dining, but is still great. I recommend booking way ahead of time. In fact, some folks book months in advance. I think the hotel is just something if you want history, ease, and unbelievable views all rolled into one place. By the way, make sure to get a room facing the canyon.

2. Bright Angel Lodge: Rustic Charm with a View

Bright Angel Lodge, designed by Mary Colter, that’s pretty neat. So it provides a feel that’s more rustic. Situated on the South Rim, too, the lodge shows off views. What makes it neat is its simple rock construction. It may seem different than other constructions, like, almost unique. Plus, the history just oozes from the walls there. Rooms are fairly comfy and sort of cozy. Of course, they range from tiny cabins to rooms inside the main lodge, is that interesting? One other big perk is Bright Angel Restaurant where the grub, arguably, is reasonably good and well-priced. The Bright Angel Lodge also provides access to trails, apparently. Namely, the Bright Angel Trail itself! Make sure you check out the historic geology room.

3. Yavapai Lodge: Modern Comfort and Convenience

Yavapai Lodge might be more your speed if modern stuff is your type. Situated in the Grand Canyon Village, still. Yavapai Lodge, obviously, gives people lodging that’s super convenient. It actually consists of two spots: Yavapai East and Yavapai West. The East buildings got the refresh treatment fairly recently and I think it made them comfy! Now, Yavapai West has buildings that accept pets! The Yavapai is perfect if traveling with furry friends. Plus, the location puts you really, very close to eateries and shops, in fact. Also, they actually give free shuttle service to different spots within the park. By the way, keep in mind the park might still have some areas where the shuttles don’t go. Yavapai, basically, works super great if you’re on a tight schedule with kids or big groups.

4. Thunderbird Lodge: Classic Motor Lodge Experience

So you just want something kind of basic? I mean, Thunderbird Lodge may work. Its near the South Rim too! And guess what, a number of the rooms, usually, open straight onto the canyon. You may get views that’ll make your jaw drop depending where the room is. Rooms may have updated stuff, pretty recently at least. Though some may be a little blah to folks, just a little! No doubt you get amenities that are key like TVs, places where you get drinks, plus spots you could go if you need stuff from the shops. The ease might matter more if you prefer not stressing about luxury and want to focus way more on adventuring! Keep in mind stuff at the lodge books fast, mostly.

5. Maswik Lodge: Sprawling and Family-Friendly

So this big lodge shows off lodging with something for pretty much anyone! Still in the South Rim. Maswik is fairly sizable and spread out! They got various types of spots for staying too. From fairly standard hotel spots to, usually, cottages. Meaning it is easy if the family travels together, really! The restaurant is decent and they sell cool gifts in the shop! So there is space to move around if you want to chill, too. Plus it’s just kinda calm and close enough for canyon sights. Maswik, truly, might fit your ideal trip when convenience counts and space is super important.
